Our Home School Room

IMG_9715Well…. its not totally done… but for the most part its good to go.

With the help of a pantry my dad made us (out of an old entertainment center), we are now able to store our “things” πŸ™‚ and organize things a bit in this room.

I put up two shelves as well on the wall to help store a few items *well my dad put them up haha*. One above my sewing table and another above a book shelf we have in the room. The shelves came from IKEA. They cost $4 each I believe? maybe a dollar or two more, but they were cheap!

The book shelf came from WORLD MARKET and was a gift from my dad. Any time he buys us furniture its nice πŸ™‚

The table the boys will use for their school work was another item from my dad… his old table. Works great! Its not to big, or to small.

We also purchased a small student desk from IKEA for $20. We were going to put this in the room as well but didnt have much room… so instead I put it in our living room. Its in the corner of the room so it will allow some “alone” time for Caleb if he needs it.

The current “chairs” in the school room are from our church actually… haha… those have to be replaced soon. Im waiting on another trip to IKEA to get some prettier yet inexpensive chairs. For now the metal fold up chairs will do.

My sewing table will change… it currently is a fold up table I got a few years ago. I use it for newborn sessions as well (to put the baby up higher). For now it works but it isnt much to look at. I have an old antique desk (dark brown) that I will move into its place once my new “office” desk comes (that will go into our bedroom) – its also from WORLD MARKET, a gift from my dad for my birthday!

If you have any questions as to where something came from in the room, just comment and ill let you know πŸ™‚

Also the school materials we will be using all come from ABEKA.
I honestly am so busy that I could not imagine not using ABEKA. I needed something laid out for me… and I love that it helps keep track of the records and all that… It hopefully will work out and save me some time.

Taite will attend a private pre-school 2 days a week as well… which will be good I believe for giving me one on one time with Caleb.

Im a tad nervous about home schooling… but have a very supportive husband who will help me if I need it… and we do believe this is the right choice for our family. So let the fun begin πŸ™‚

I will also be joining a big home school group in the town over as well…
It has co-op classes for kids too! which will be fun. They have asked me to possibly help teach a photography class πŸ˜‰ which sounded neat…

Below are a few more pictures from the room!

Enjoy…

I used A Beka for my kids as well (we actually did the Kindergarten curriculum when they were 4 to test it out). I loved it…even though I decided not to home school because we were so lucky to live right next to a great school. All three of my kids got this “pre-training” and loved it. Not to mention they were super prepared for Kindergarten. It was a great start in their school careers. Tomorrow morning, I am taking my second child to UNC Chapel Hill for her Freshman year. We have two kids there now and I can only say that time flies!!! I still have a little one at home, but in a blink of an eye, they’re off. Good luck with A Beka, I’m sure you’ll love it too. πŸ™‚

I have gone back and forth but when it comes down to it I know that Piper will learn much better from someone else than me. It makes me sad in a way that she won’t be with me all the time anymore but it is what she wants. She loves being with all the other kids and I think that she learns better that way. I am envious that your husband is so on board. Mine has allowed me to do many non mainstream things raising our kids but this is one that he believes she should do.
